From the menu, select "Weddings" and then hit "top 10 wedding colours" colour swatch on the left hand menu!
You will see that the matching bit has been done for you, you can now shop from the selections knowing that the products you choose will match perfectly with each other!
Who should wear what?
The structure of your wedding accessories is completely up to you, we have had couples who really wanted the whole wedding party to wear neckties, and we have even had a wedding party who were holding a barn dance and only wanted everyone to wear white shirts, braces and a pocket square! That's the magic, you and your partner should discuss the vision you have and use us to execute it!
The structure is as unique as you and the guests that are attending the event, but most importantly it should be what you want, and a reflection of you!
Here are a few suggestions that seem to work well for inspiration!
Cravats / Ascot Ties
PickaPocket Cravats Suitable For Weddings (Click To Shop)
We are the number one cravat store in the UK, we have developed a range of rather special paisley pattern ascot ties to sit alongside our wedding collection to ensure you can build the look you desire for your grooms party.
If you are having a large wedding party, with several groomsmen we suggest you try reserving a cravat for the groom and his best man/men and father of the groom! This is a brilliant way to keep a consistent look throughout the party, but ensure it's obvious that the key members of the party.
Another great idea here is to select a fabric from our range that works with the brides dress. This way the father of the bride (or whoever is giving the bride away) also has a complimenting look but also a way of distinguishing between the families.
As with all our tips it's options we are giving you, you might want the brides father to match fully the grooms party, its completely your choice! don't worry about convention if convention isn't your thing!
PickaPocket Neckties Suitable For Weddings (Click To Shop)
For smaller wedding parties it's a very traditional option to select either neckties or cravats (as above) for the grooms party! We have ensured both options are catered for in this collection. It really is a matter of preference here, and what suits the vision you have of your perfect day!
All the pieces in this collection have been designed with the wedding photography in mind! The raised paisley texture ensures the knots bind into place to ensure the look doesn't fade throughout the day!
If you are having a larger guest list then why not try this! You may have already selected cravats for your best man, groom and father, but now you might be thinking of how to match the remaining members of the team. That's exactly where this collection will help you! You can now work your way outwards, think like a chess board, the central pieces are sorted, it's now time to work on the knights and bishops!
Why not try standard ties for these members of the party, so you can now start to build up an image of how this will look on pictures. There will be an obvious distinction between the pivotal roles for the day, and now you have a look that brings the look together.
PickaPocket Bow Ties Suitable For Weddings
Traditional we are not, well certainly not always! This is your wedding, along the planning process never lose sight of that, so if you like bow ties, then why not have bow ties! We have extended the wedding collection to include them because, well, bow ties are cool!
If you have a larger wedding party then there is a likelihood that there might be children involved too. Our bows are perfect for kids! Again think of the look you are trying to achieve, and if consistency is key to your plan then working down from ascot ties, to neckties then bow ties for the younger members of your family might be a great option!
PickaPocket Pocket Squares Suitable For Weddings (Click To Shop)
We started to get more and more customers asking for just the pocket squares alone, and that's fine by us! But we wanted to know why? When we asked why, we thought the answer was a fantastic idea, so let's share with you!
The couples we asked wanted one of two things.
Some wanted to send a sample of the material to the florist to match the button holes and bouquets to, rather than try to explain the colour.
Others wanted to take the pocket square from the Grooms outfit for the photographer to take pictures around the venue with items such as the rings or brides shoes etc.!
The button holes and pocket squares matched perfectly for them and they made for fantastic memories of the day. So it's absolutely worth adding an extra pocket square to the cart for some creative photography or colour matching!
Our Top Colours For Weddings
Shhh, the secrets out, we have been collecting data for the last 10 years and here are the results!
It's such a difficult decision isn't it, what colour scheme do you go for one of the most special days of your life, your wedding! It can determine everything, from the invites to the bouquets and bridesmaids dresses, so it truly is a big deal.
But the good news is somehow via the power of the internet you have landed here, and we have 10 years of first-hand knowledge and search data at our fingertips to help you!
Where do we start with a guide to planning your wedding accessories?
It's a huge huge day, so it's important to think this through, and a good start is thinking about your colour scheme and photography!
So are you sitting comfortably? Then let's begin!
Grooms, let's overthink our wedding accessories!
There's no point me telling you not to worry or not to overthink this, as wedding accessories are enough to get even the most natty gent in a spin! So let's work through this logically!
The Wedding Colour Scheme
The first big hurdle for you and your partner, is establishing the 'base' colour scheme. Don't panic! You definitely won't be limited by your choice, as there are plenty of amazing accessories out there to make it work!
What's the best colour to wear for a wedding? The best colour that suits you as a couple!
You may already have some great ideas for a 'base' theme, so let's explore how those accessories are going to have you saying 'I do' in style!
The Accessories Wedding Colour Wheel!
We have put together a colour wheel, featuring some of the greatest wedding themes out there right now!
Once you have selected a 'base' colour, choosing the bridesmaids outfits may be your first job. After reading this blog, you are going to have the ability to choose the very best, show stopping accessories to compliment those all important dresses.
So how does it work? Lets select dusky pink as your base; this will be the central colour theme and is also one of our hottest colours for a summer wedding this season!
Now take one colour either side of dusky pink; these are matching colours, they are a 'safe' option for your main and most important accessories. i.e. the ties, cravats and pocket squares.
Next, take the outer two colours from the selection, these are going to be the standout elements of your look; use sparingly to your advantage!
So there we have our safe colour palette. Use the outer colours wisely and sparingly, and the inner colours to build the look.
For your wedding accessories, we would recommend (as a rule of thumb) having one standout feature colour. See how the purple from the outer colour selection has been used as a feature flower in the button hole below. This helps to pull the whole look together.
What if I really want to stand out?
Well if you really want to be brave then here's how to do it! Take the colour (or one of the colours) opposite your 'base' colour and then choose one accessory for your outfit and try it in that colour. This will become your feature piece!
Remember, if you do want to be brave try selecting a more plain solid colour necktie from your "safe" selection rather than a heavily patterned one. Next, compliment it with a really striking pocket square! You don't want to create a "visual mess" by overdoing every element of the attire as the statement you are trying to make can easily be lost
Narrowing the base colour scheme pallet to 2 colours, then adding a striking contrast from the opposite side of the colour wheel can work really well!
In the example below, we chose a really narrow base pallet by choosing a single colour navy blue suit, with a crisp white shirt.
We then chose a bright orange tie set from the opposite side of the colour wheel and used this as our standout accessory.
Our advice here would be if you are going to use a contrasting colour, rather than a safer selection then reduce the base colours to two or three using the standout accessory as a statement piece!
What about photography?
As you are choosing your wedding accessories you are possibly also looking at options for your wedding photographer! Exciting times indeed!
Our advice would be to discuss colour and environment with your photographer! They are likely to have ideas on how to get you the most creative shots on your day! Again taking our pink floral tie and button hole, look at how the driftwood from the beech theme has been incorporated to make the perfect backdrop for the photos! It's small details like this that live forever in your pictures.
Our Pro Tips
Why not let your wedding photographer take a set of your accessories for half an hour to take pictures of them around your wedding venue; you will be surprised by the results when you come to look at your pictures. A wedding is as much about the surroundings as everyone there on the day!
How about asking your photographer to post edit some of the photos. If you are wearing something particularly colourful then a black and white shot with the accessories bought back to true colour in Photoshop can look fab!
There's going to be drinks and dancing galore, but that doesn't mean your tie set has to slip during the day.
We have put together a collection of popular 'base' colour tie and bow tie sets for weddings; all have a textured surface to bind them into place!
Our Top Ten Colours Revealed
Let's get straight down to business, we aren't going to order them in a typical 1 to 10 because that's not how this works, it's not a case of going for one of the top three wedding colours, if it was this blog would be really short, in fact, I can tell you those now just in case you want to cut this short and go for one of the top three, which are mustard yellow, teal and burnt orange. Although these will feature in this blog, it doesn't mean they are particularly the right choice for you!
Instead let's look at our top ten in no particular order, and work out what each option means and says about your big day!
Sage can represent wisdom, so it's a great choice for someone who wants to say something about family and deep values, green is also a very natural colour, so elements of being in touch with nature and growth.
We see sales of sage green at their highest around spring, symbolising hope and prosperity and growth. Our couples who send us photos from their big day often include a lot of Gypsophilia within their bouquets.
Burgundy Wine Red!
A classic wedding colour that never seems to leave our top 10, red essentially represents passion and love, ideal for weddings! But the deep rich tone offers a classy and sophisticated feel.
If you're looking to compliment wine red then think roses and tulips with full-bodied colour for the fullest impact. When thinking about wedding photography, you simply can't go wrong with red!
Orange has been so popular that we have split this section into two, Burnt Orange and Bright orange, as both attract a very different type of audience.
Filled with warmth and excitement bright orange is for the bold, combining the strength and energy of red with the cheerfulness of yellow, we can confirm that bright orange is our fourth hottest selling wedding colour.
Now just think of the amazing photography you will get from choosing orange for your ceremony! Simply stunning!
We're in the mood for an autumn wedding here, think warmth, and comfort. In the interests of fairness, some believe burnt orange symbolises selfishness and pride, but from our sales data, we can certainly say most people don't feel the same.
At number 3 in our top 10 selling wedding schemes burnt orange offers you a stunning impactful choice!
Let's continue with another top seller, Lilac (Lavender and Purple). And this is in at number two of our best selling colours, and there's good reason for this. Symbolising the first blooms of spring and renewal regeneration and hope, purple is a microcosm of everything a wedding should stand for.
One of the biggest reasons Lilac works so well is because it works so well with so many floral bouquets!
Another classic wedding colour that has never left our top ten in sales. Representing calm and clarity of thought, everything you need standing at the alter waiting for the love of your life to walk in!
Tibetan Monks explore the thought that teal represents the infinity of the sea and sky, what a great parallel to draw with a wedding!
It wouldn't be a wedding colours blog if we didn't feature pink, and we have a stunning bright pink featured here too! Now we are going against tradition, pink isn't just for girls! No way! It's time to break that stigma completely.
We think that pink is one of the strongest colours out there, and to us, it symbolises love for yourself and for others around you!
Ok so it's the language of love, and it's said that you can't go wrong with red at a wedding, and we tend to agree! Symbolising health, love, strength, vigour and courage it's everything most people envisage when imagining your perfect partner.
We love the punchy nature of the red, and it's also the first colour that the eyes are drawn to, so what a great opportunity to reinforce the fact that all eyes are on you!
Every blog needs a wild card, and this one is ours! It hangs around just outside our top ten colours but we have added it to our editors top ten because we think silver offers something unique and different, and we think it might be a hot choice for 2021/2.
Silver represents the mirror to the soul, and this is why we tip it as a hot choice for the upcoming wedding season. Representing unconditional love and giving, we truly believe silver is going to be hot!
Ok, we've put all the choices forward, lets reveal the hottest selling 2021/2 colour, yes it's mustard yellow!
It's a simply stunning choice for so many reasons, but photography has to be the main one! Yellow looks absolutely stunning on photography, and the deeper mustard tone is rich and luxurious, it also suits most skin tones and suits colours, making it a go-to choice!
The bible often refers to mustard yellow as a symbol of faith, further reinforcing the choice! In short, you won't go wrong with mustard yellow!
So now you are armed with the knowledge, it's time for you to select some accessories that you would like to wear on your big day! Most importantly, you now know that they will look amazing!
Remember colour is your friend! Once you understand the basics of selection and how to use 'base' colours and feature colours to your advantage, you can go out there and own the day!
Selecting a few colours close together in the colour wheel will create a safe base colour scheme, then adding a splash of colour from the opposite (or close to opposite) of the wheel will create an impact piece!
Think about the composition of your day, the surroundings of your venue, and what you want the photographer to capture from your day!
Good luck with styling your big day, and remember you can email us anytime at firstname.lastname@example.org for access to our stylists.
